DESCRIPTION - AIR CONDITIONING - Fiat 500 1.3 Multijet
An automatic system manages passenger compartment climate control, i.e. temperature and ventilation, with air flow recirculation and positioning.A special control unit manages the operation of the system by controlling:air temperature at the vents;air distribution at the vents;fan speed;compressor engagement (air refrigeration circuit);air recirculation engagement;the MAX-DEF rapid defrosting function (which consists of a collection of measures which make it possible to demist the windscreen quickly);
The control unit sets the above parameters so that temperature of the passenger compartment is adjusted to the desired temperature.The following parameters/functions can be altered manually:temperature;fan speed;distribution arrangement;compressor disabling;defrosting/demisting;recirculation.
Manual selections always take priority over automatic ones and are memorized until the user cancels the command by returning to automatic operation.The control unit acquires information on the temperature and weather conditions via special sensors:outside temperature sensor, located on the passenger door mirror: the sensor value is acquired by the Body Computer and is then sent, via the CAN, to the climate control system control unit as well as to the instrument panel and to other consumers;frost sensor: measures the temperature at the evaporator;two treated air temperature sensors: measure the temperature at the driver''s lower vent outlet (FOOT) and the upper vent in the centre of the dashboard (VENT) and transmit this information to the control unit;passenger compartment air sensor, integrated in the control unit.
On the basis of the calculations made, the control unit sets:the speed of the air entering the passenger compartment;the temperture of the air through the mixture actuator (MIX);the distribution of the flows via a dedicated actuator (DIST);the interior/exterior air recirculation function by means of another specific actuator (RIC).
All actuators are controlled directly by an electronic control unit.If the conditions require, the control unit also switches on the air cooling and dehumidification circuit, activating the air conditioning compressorFor further details,When the outside temperature measured is below 3 °C, the message "Danger Ice" and the snowflake symbol appear in the instrument panel display.The climate control system control unit is supplied by two lines, one direct and one ignition-controlled, protected by dedicated fuses located in the Body Computer; the fan is controlled by a dedicated relay and protected by a dedicated fuse located in the engine compartment junction unit.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION - AIR CONDITIONING - Fiat 500 1.3 Multijet
The climate control system control unit M070 receives an ignition-controlled power supply (INT) at pin 2 of connector A along the line protected by fuse F51 of the Body Computer M001 (pin 24 of connector C) and a direct supply from the battery at pin 1 of connector A along the line protected by fuse F36 of the actual Body Computer (pin 29 of connector C). Pin 3 of connector A is earthed.The passenger compartment air fan N085 receives a power supply from the line operated by relay T08 and protected by fuse F08 both located in the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 63 of connector B).The coil for relay T08 of B001 (pin 45 of connector B) receives an ignition-controlled supply (INT/A) along the line protected by fuse F31 of the Body Computer M001 (pin 21 of connector C). This line is excluded during engine starting.The climate control system control unit M070 is connected, via pins 8 (control) and 7 (feedback) to the passenger compartment air fan N085 to regulate the speed. The latter is also connected to the air conditioning system earth C016.The climate control system control unit M070 is connected to different sensors; specifically:from pin 5 of connector A it provides a reference earth for the frost sensor K086, for the lower mixed air temperature sensor K087 and the upper one K088 and for the potentiometers incorporated in the air distribution flap actuator N080 and the air mixture flap actuator N081 (pin 1);at pin 6 of connector A it receives the signal supplied by the frost sensor K086;at pin 11 of connector A it receives the signal supplied by the lower mixed air temperature sensor K087;at pin 12 of connector A it receives the signal supplied by the lower mixed air temperature sensor K088;from pin 2 of connector B it provides a power supply for the potentiometers incorporated in the air distribution flap actuator N080 and the air mixture flap actuator N081 (pin 3);at pin 7 of connector B it receives the feedback signal from the air distribution flap actuator N080 (pin 2);at pin 2 of connector B it receives the feedback signal from the air mixture flap actuator N081 (pin 2);
The climate control unit M070 then manages the mixing, distribution and recirculation of the air, constantly checking the temperature. Specifically:from pins 5 and 6 of connector B it provides a power supply and reference earth respectively for the outside/recirculation air flap actuator N082;from pins 9 and 10 of connector B it provides a power supply and reference earth for the air mixture flap actuator N081;from pins 11 and 12 of connector B it provides a power supply and reference earth for the air distribution flap actuator N080.
The outside temperature sensor, incorporated in the passenger side exterior rear view mirror P061, receives an earth from the Body Computer M001 and sends a signal to pin 37 of connector B of the Body Computer; the latter forwards this signal via the B-CAN (pins 57 and 58 of connector B) to the climate control system control unit M070 (pins 10 and 9 of connector A) and to the other network nodes.The control unit M070 sends the request for switching the compressor on to the engine management control unit M010 via the CAN.The discreet connection for switching the compressor on, in the climate control system control unit logic (pin 8 of connector A) has been omitted (not connected) in the vehicle connections because it is redundant in relation to the connection via the CAN.Turning the side lights on (pin 51 of connector D of M001) causes the activation of the lighting for the climate control system control unit M070 managed via the CAN.
