DESCRIPTION - WINDSCREEN WASH/WIPE - Fiat 500 1.4 16v
The function of the windscreen washer/wiper can only be operated when the key is in the MAR (ON) position and is exclusive to the ignition phase (INT/A).The windscreen wiper system is operated by the stalk switch located to the right of the steering wheel. This stalk may be moved to five different positions that correspond to the following functions:windscreen wiper off (stationary);intermittent operation;continuous fast operation (1st speed);continuous fast operation (2nd speed);anti-panic temporary speed operation (unstable stalk position; stalk returns to neutral position when released and automatically deactivates the windscreen wiper).
The windscreen wiper intermittent function allows the wiper arm stroke speed to be modified according to vehicle speed. It is possible to manually change the windscreen wiper speed at any time. The gap between one windscreen wiper stroke and the next, operates according to car speed and the following logic:4.7 seconds up to 40 Km/h;2.7 seconds up to 90 Km/h;1.1 seconds up to 110 Km/h.
The windscreen wiper function can be activated by pulling the lever slightly toward the steering wheel: this operates the windscreen washer pump. Keeping the lever pulled for more than half a second also starts the windscreen wiper (smart washing) at first speed, while, when the lever is released, the windscreen wiper performs 3 more strokes. A final stroke after 6 seconds completes the wiping operation.Operation of the windscreen wipers is regulated by the Body Computer. As well as generating the intermittence period, this controls operation of the windscreen wiper motor.Activation of the windscreen wiper when reverse gear is engaged enables rear wiper movement at continuous low speed. The windscreen/rear screen washer two-way pump circuit is operated by a relay built into the Body Computer that allows different polarisation of the motor according to commands given by the user. Its power supply line is protected by a fuse located on the same Body Computer.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION - WINDSCREEN WASH/WIPE - Fiat 500 1.4 16v
The windscreen wiper mode selector and the activation button for the windscreen washer pump, built into the steering wheel interface H005, receive a reference earth at pin 2 of connector B of the steering wheel interface.According to the lever position, Body Computer M001 (connector D) receives the activation commands:intermittent, to pin 57 from pin 7 of connector A of H005;1st operating speed, to pin 54 from pin 8 of connector A of H005;2nd operating speed or anti-panic mode, to pin 56 from pin 9 of connector A of H005.
Similarly, the windscreen washer command is sent from pin 6 of connector A of H005 to pin 55 of connector D of Body Computer M001.Body Computer M001 receives power direct from the battery (pin 1 of connector A) protected by fuse F01 of engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 18 of connector B); however, this is powered when the ignition is on (INT) to pin 11 of connector E.Body Computer M001 is powered when the ignition is on (INT/A) at pin 1 of connector E, excluding the windscreen washer/wiper system during start-up.Body Computer M001 is connected to the driver-side dashboard earth C015 via pins 9 and 10 of connector E.According to the function selected, Body Computer M001 sends the following control signals to wiper motor N015:from pin 14 of connector C for fast operation (pin 1);from pin 3 of connector C for slow and/or intermittent operation (pin 5);pin 39 of connector B on the other hand, receives the earth signal coming from the motor end of travel cam which stops operation (pin 3).
Windscreen wiper motor N015 is connected (pin 2) to the left front earth C010.Body Computer M001 (pins 44 and 45 of connector B) receives vehicle speed information via the C-CAN from braking system control unit M051.Therefore, with the windscreen wiper in intermittent mode, Body Computer M001 regulates the wiper arm stroke speed according to vehicle speedBody Computer M001 sends two signals from pins 15 (negative) and 2 (positive) of connector C, which operates the windscreen/rearscreen washer two-way pump N022 which then sends the liquid detergent back to the rearscreen wiper under the effect of the polarisation described previously. The supply line from the pump is protected by fuse F43 of Body Computer M001.As described above, when the windscreen wiper and reverse gear are engaged, Body Computer M001 (pin 13 of connector C) automatically activates the rearscreen wiper.
