DESCRIPTION - PETROL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT - Fiat 500 1.4 16v

An electronic control system supervises and governs all engine parameters to optimise performance and fuel consumption by means of a real-time response to different service conditions.The system is managed by a single control unit which controls both ignition and injection.Depending on the signals received from numerous sensors, the control unit controls the injectors connected to it, managing the following systems:fuel supply;air supply;accelerator pedal;engine cooling;combustion control - Lambda sensors;control of exhaust with catalytic converter;fuel vapour recirculation.The throttle body is also controlled electronically by the control unit: throttle opening is calculated in accordance with specific software mapped inside the engine control unit. This system does away with the need for a mechanical link between accelerator pedal and throttle body.Thanks to the electronic management described above, this engine conforms to the most recent emission control regulations (EURO 4).For more details,The system is also controlled by dedicated relays in the engine compartment junction control unit. Lines supplying the control unit and various system components (sensors and actuators) are protected by dedicated fuses that are also located inside the engine compartment control unit.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION - PETROL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT - Fiat 500 1.4 16v

Engine management control unit M010 controls and governs the entire electronic ignition and injection system.The control unit M10 is supplied directly by the battery at pin 70 of connector A via a line protected by fuse F18 of the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 5 of connector B).The ignition-operated power supply (15/54) arrives via a line protected by fuse F16 of the engine compartment control unit B001 (pin 12 of connector B) to pin 6 of connector A of M010.Pins 1, 2, and 4 of connector A of M010 are connected to the negative battery terminal A001 (connector B).The main injection relay T09 of control unit B001 controls the entire system: its coil, powered when the ignition is on via the line protected by fuse F16 of B001, is activated by an earth signal from pin 72 of connector A of control unit M010 and sends the power supply:to pins 3, 5 of connector A of the same control unit via a line protected by fuse F17 of B001 (pin 61 of connector B);to the fuel vapour recovery solenoid L010 and to the lambda sensor heater coil on the pre-converter K015 and on the converter K017 (pin 4), via the line protected by fuse F11 from B001 (pin 60 of connector B);to the ignition coils A030 and to the injector N070, via the line protected by fuse F22 from the same control unit B001 (pin 62 of connector B).The fuel pump relay T17 from B001 is powered directly from the battery via the line of fuse F21 from the same control unit B001.Its coil, connected to the left front earth C010 via pin 50 of connector B of B001, is activated with a positive signal from pin 68 of connector A of control unit M010 and supplies power to the fuel pump N040.Your vehicle is not equipped for the adoption of the inertia switch; as a replacement, the fuel cut-off function is managed from the Air bag control unit which, after an impact is detected, sends the FPS (Fire Prevention System) signal via the network, allowing the engine control unit M010 to interrupt the fuel flow. This condition is shown by the instrument panel E050 via the general failure warning light and a corresponding message on the display.The engine management control unit M010 receives signals from the various sensors in order to control all engine service parameters.The engine rpm sensor K046 provides engine rpm information via a frequency signal sent to pins 38 and 37 of connector B of control unit M010.Timing sensor K047 is supplied from pin 11 of connector B of control unit M010; it receives a reference earth from pin 28 of connector B, and sends a frequency signal corresponding to the phase to pin 12 of connector B of the control unit.The air pressure / temperature sensor K044 receives a power supply and a reference earth respectively from pins 9 and 44 of connector B of the control unit M010, sensor K044 sends the signals corresponding to the temperature and to the aspirated air pressure to pins 24 and 25 respectively of connector B of the same control unit.Engine coolant sensor/sender unit K036 receives a reference earth from pin 29 of connector B of engine control unit M010 and sends a signal proportional to engine coolant temperature to pin 43 of the control unit.The Lambda sensor on the pre-converter K015 and the one on converter K017 provide the control unit M010 with information concerning the correct composition of the air-fuel mixture.The probe K015 (pin 1) sends a signal to pin 55 of connector B of the control unit, while pin 52 provides a reference earth (pin 2). Probe K015 is heated by a heater coil to ensure it works efficiently even when cold: the heater coil is powered from the first relay T09, while pin 16 of connector B of the engine control unit M010 supplies the reference earth to the probe (pin 3).The probe K017 (pin 1) sends a signal to pin 53 of connector B of the control unit, while pin 54 provides a reference earth (pin 2): Probe K017 is heated by a heater coil to ensure it works efficiently even when cold. the heater coil is powered from the main relay T09, while pin 1 of connector B of the engine control unit M010 supplies the reference earth to the probe (pin 3).The knock sensor K050 supplies, via frequency signals, information about combustion chamber knock onset; this sends two signals to the pins 51 and 36 of connector B of M010. These signals are also suitably screened.Accelerator pedal K055 contains two built-in potentiometers (a main one and a safety one). The former receives power and earth signals from pins 49 and 30 of connector A of M010 and sends a corresponding signal to pin 79 of the same connector. The latter receives power and earth signals from pins 27 and 29 of connector A of M010 and sends a corresponding signal to pin 55 of the same connector.The control unit M10 receives, at pin 35 of connector B, a signal from the minimum engine oil pressure sensor K030.Pin 87 of connector A of control unit M010 receives an NO signal from the switch on brake pedal I030, supplied by an ignition-controlled supply (INT) via a line protected by fuse F37 of Body Computer M001. The latter receives the same signal as pin 27 of connector B.Pin 34 of connector B of Body computer M001 receives an NC signal from the switch on brake pedal I030, supplied by an ignition-controlled supply (INT) via a line protected by fuse F51 of the Body Computer. The latter sends this signal via the C-CAN to the control unit M010.At pin 61 of connector A, the control unit M010 receives the signal from the clutch pedal switch I031, which is powered when the ignition is on (INT) from fuse F51 of the Body Computer M001 (pin 25 of connector C).At pin 84 of connector A, the control unit M010 receives the signal from the reversing switch I020, which is powered when the ignition is on (15/54) via the line protected by fuse F87 of control unit B001 (pin 14 of connector B).Control unit M010 controls opening of the injectors N070, via the signals sent by pin 17 (cyl. A), 4 (cyl. B), 2 (cyl. C) and 19 (cyl. D) of connector B of M010. The injectors N70 receive a power supply to enable the opening of the main relay T09 of B001.The control unit M010 also controls the coils A030 via the control signals for the coil primary winding from pin 31 (cyl. A), 48 (cyl.B), 46 (cyl. C) and 47 (cyl. D) of connector B, while the secondary winding sends the impulse to the spark plugs.The primary windings of coils A030 receive a power supply to enable opening of main relay T09 of control unit B001. Pin 2 of A030 is connected to the engine earth C040.Throttle body actuator N075 is equipped with two built-in potentiometers connected in parallel: this controls the throttle opening by means of a step motor.The motor is powered and earthed respectively by pin 49 and 50 of connector B of M010. Pin 10 of connector B of M010 sends the power supply to the two potentiometers, pin 13 provides the earth signal for them, whilst pins 22 and 24 of the same connector receive signals that arrive from the throttle body actuator N075.The fuel vapour recovery solenoid valve L010 allows the flow of fuel vapours to the engine intake where they are added to the mixture entering the combustion chamber. Valve L010 is supplied by the main relay T09 of B001 and is opened by the control unit when the engine is under load, by means of a signal from pin 3 of connector B of M010.Control unit M010 (pins 88 and 89 of connector A) is connected via the C-CAN to Body Computer M001 (pins 45 and 44 of connector B) and to the other network nodes; information is sent via this connection for the management of the indicators and warning lights on instrument panel E050, in particular for the management of:"excessive engine coolant temperature" gauge and warning light;rev counter;"minimum engine oil pressure" warning light;"EOBD failure" warning light;"general failure" warning light, for the failure of the engine oil pressure sensor or the operation of the FPS (Fire Prevention System) function.The control unit M010 receives a speedometer signal generated by the braking system control unit M051 via the C-CAN.It is also connected:from pins 12 and 13 of connector A for managing the engine cooling fans;from pin 15 of connector B, with the alternator A010 for management of the insufficient battery charge/ alternator fault (D+) signal;from pins 11, 7, 28 and 57 of connector A for managing the compressor engagement function.
